The wife and I are looking to make some sand plum jelly this year. It seems no one in north eastern Kansas has a clue as to what sand plums are. Any leads on ripe plumbs? I will provide a couple jars of jelly for any leads on plum thickets!

There are a bunch of sand plum thickets around Milford. I don't know if any are ripe yet though I'll do some looking and let you know.
Slinger.... My x-wife used to make really good sand plum preserves.. the biggest thickets we found were in Stafford County. Most of the county is covered by
real sandy soil and the plum thickets were everywhere.. we used to walk the creek bottoms around Hudson. Don't know where you are located, but it isn't that
far from Wichita. As I remember it was right at this time of year we went plum huntin'. Good luck.
My folks got sand plums in there back yard. I have American Plum on my place. Actually tried one tonight. THey are a deep dark red. Here are some pics from a month ago at this time.

That is a really nice looking thicket. Many of the ones I have found are looking really bad and do not have any sand plumbs on them at all.
What is the difference between the american plum and a sand plum?

We finally found a good bunch of them east of Ottawa and that is how they looked as well. Some thickets are loaded and others have just a few plums on them. Not sure why some of them didnt produce plums.
