I think I am going to plant more plums on my place. Just can't decide whether to plant sand plums or American plum. Going to use them to screen us from the road. A bonus is the quail like them.

We use the plum recipe in the box of sure-gel. I dont have one handy to see the exact instructions but is equal parts of sugar to juice and then the sure-gel if I remember correctly. The hardest part is cooking the plums and then extracting the juice. We use an old food mill to get the juice and then run it through a jelly bag to remove as much pulp as we can.
That sand plum jelly is some good stuff. Sand plum wine ain't half bad either:biggrin
Plums are dark red right now. Bushes are loaded down.
I heard they were in western Kansas too. What area are you seeing them?
Coffey county
I have many sand plum bushes in our backyard and for some reason this year I didn't get many good ones at all. Not enough to make any jelly this year. :( Last year was a great crop and was looking foward to this year too, but not going to happen for me this year. :(
I have a bunch of loaded up American plum bushes. I did find a sand plum bush on my place today. I'll get a fruit of each type in my hand for comparison tomorrow.

Not many on the sand plum bush, but I keep finding American plum bushes all over the place.
