Busted Skeg

a recent trip to arkansas river was the demise of the skeg on the 40 hrs yamaha and the 4th prop of the year, any ideas on what would be the best way to repair the skeg, been looking at stainless skeg gaurds but not sure if it would be better to have someone rebuild it also dont know if its possible???????Attachment 167474Attachment 167475

Seen it fixed both ways, be sure they don't get it hot enough to damage seals if they tig it. You say 4 props? :yikes

cant do that for long, the prop is below the bottom of the skeg which will only result in more damaged props and im hard on em anyway!!!!!!

I think ski trip had his done somewhere. I think it was a bolt on or maybe some kind of glue on. I need to do mine on the 25hp, but not much is missing.

Let me know if you find someone to cut it straight and weld a new piece on. Need to do the same thing on my 25 Yamaha. Can't buy a skeg shield to bolt on, at least I haven't been able to find one. Russ says River Valley Marine that does his prop work might be able to do it. I haven't checked with them yet. Agree with Nimrod, probably need to be welded off the motor. Been told that anyway.

Randell, I put a bolt-on River Runner on it because I couldn't find a bolt-on skeg protector for a motor that small. Only one I could find was a guy in Australia who would email you a template for you to trace your skeg and then send it to him and he would custom build a stainless steel bolt-on skeg protector. I'm looking for someone to do the cut off and weld type repair as I don't like the River Runner. It affects the performance too much. Any of you guys out there know of someone who can do that, I would appreciate your posting it on here. Bet Greg would appreciate it as well. Thanks.
