CROW FACTS
Researchers for the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority found over 200 dead crows near greater Boston recently, and there was concern that they may have died from Avian Flu.
A Bird Pathologist examined the remains of all the crows, and, to everyone's relief, confirmed the problem was definitely NOT Avian Flu.The cause of death appeared to be vehicular impacts.
However, during the detailed analysis it was noted that varying colors of paints appeared on the bird's beaks and claws.
By analyzing these paint residues it was determined that 98% of the crows had been killed by impact with trucks, while only 2% were killed by an impact with a car.
MTA then hired an Ornithological Behaviorist to determine if there was a cause for the disproportionate percentages of truck kills versus car kills.
He very quickly concluded the cause: When crows eat road kill, they always have a look-out crow in a nearby tree to warn of impending danger
They discovered that while all the lookout crows could shout "Cah", not a single one could shout "Truck."

Good one!
I got to watch a duck banding session several years ago with a certain government agency. We were in the blind, waiting to fire the rockets for the net, and the crows kept coming in to the bait and running the teal and wood ducks away. Finally the guys decided there was the maximum number of ducks and they fired the net, trapping not only ducks but also several crows. We rushed to the net and I was filming when I heard some of the guys saying OOPS!! With each OOPS! came a corresponding CRUNCH!! I looked over to see the guys walking across the top of the net and ( accidentally I'm sure) each step happened to be on a crow. Funny, no ducks were harmed and no crows escaped. I thought it was a strange way of keeping one's boots off the muddy ground. Seems to have worked rather well but I didn't get any of it on film. Darn my luck!!

Bet that was something to see those people keep their boots clean while banding the ducks.
