A few weeks ago I was fishing Birch Lake and I was having trouble catching anything unless I was right down in the middle of the brush. It seemed I was spending more time hanging up than catching fish so I tried something different. I took a 1/8 oz Kastmaster spoon, removed the trebble hook and replaced it with a gold single minnow hook. Then I texas rigged a 2 in grub on the single hook. I was able to drop it down and drag it over the limbs with a lot fewer hang ups. It seemed to produce as many fish as regular jigs or minnows and I didn't miss as many hook sets as I thought I would. Most thumps came after dragging the spoon over a limb and letting it dop and flutter down. When you do hang up and lose one though it can get a bit pricey compared to losing a jig.
