    Default Kastmaster Crappie

A few weeks ago I was fishing Birch Lake and I was having trouble catching anything unless I was right down in the middle of the brush. It seemed I was spending more time hanging up than catching fish so I tried something different. I took a 1/8 oz Kastmaster spoon, removed the trebble hook and replaced it with a gold single minnow hook. Then I texas rigged a 2 in grub on the single hook. I was able to drop it down and drag it over the limbs with a lot fewer hang ups. It seemed to produce as many fish as regular jigs or minnows and I didn't miss as many hook sets as I thought I would. Most thumps came after dragging the spoon over a limb and letting it dop and flutter down. When you do hang up and lose one though it can get a bit pricey compared to losing a jig.

Bigjon, try these out on your jigs I use them all the time and they sure do save allot of jigs for me. Bass Pro ShopsŪ Hook Guard for Weedless Lures | Bass Pro Shops

It's not the jig you are buying it is the clear plastic piece that goes over the hook. If you do happen to go with them get them in the medium size. the smalls are a little to small plus the mediums last just a little longer.

Thanks crappie_jiggin, I'll give them a try. Lots cheaper than a spoon.

I agree with redge....they work great. EB turned me on to them. I just ordered several packs of the eagle claw stickguards today. Crazy how you can drag right over the brush time after time and not get hung up
