I know how wind affects deer movement. Does it affect crappie the same?
I know it makes boat positioning more difficult, but do crappie bite more or less depending on certain wind speeds? Deer movement lessens dramatically after the winds get to 25+ mph.
Also, most hunting winds are out of the west and not the east. Does an east wind affect crappie different than the usual west wind?
Old saying, "Wind out of the East, fish bite the least. Wind out of the West, fish bite the best!" I can't say if that' true, one way or the other. Just always heard that! Kinda like "If the cows are laying down, fishing is bad." :dono
A little wave action is normally good for all game fish..east wind I hate,,and the bite suffers some to,,IMO..It is especially good when fishing walleye to have some wave action..

I agree. I'd rather have just a little chop, or wave action than to have glassy still water. Just not enough to make it a pain to keep the boat positioned.

ALOT DEPENDS ON WIND SPEED , TIME OF YEAR AND WATER DEPTH.
The old say'n is pretty good but not set in concrete.
Wind outa the South , bait falls in their mouth
Wind outa the East , fish bite the least
Wind outa the West, fish bite the best
Wind outa the North , don't go forth
Unless the wind makes fishing too diffacult , fish anytime you can go. There are exceptions to every rule. I never like a blue sky with no wind and lake like a pane of glass.nonono
I know high pressure gives most all fish lock jaw. As for the wind, I don't like an East wind, all others aren't bad. When i'm trying to fish deep I hate a lot of wind. Really I don't like any wind. Now for bass fishing I like some wind in the spring...I think when crappie are spawning it has the same effect by blowing/washing bait fish up on shore. I think this time of the year the reason wind sucks so bad is because your bait is moving too fast all the time, they want a slow moving bait this time of the year from what I've seen. Oh, well I'm still going in the morning...even though there's supposed to be some wind and and it's supposed to be out of the East. I'm still just looking for spots, once I find a few spots I know when I do catch a good day I can get on them better.
Who knows...I just fish when I can and the wind aint too strong.:rolleyes::p
Hey Fro - If your like me you are few years from retirement so we have to fish when we can. I cant wait to tell some one that they bit wednesday and thursday before the front came in. I do like a little chop on the water. If fishing in 15+ wind like lately I think the boat speed is important. I had chains and wind socks out this weekend to slow me down. Dont count ou west is best, east is least, cows laying down and if you hear a hoot owl in the middle of the day, go home.
Saw a bald eagle this morning on the water. You think that'd be a good sign...well, the fish had already shut-off by then. Lol.
