Now that's pretty! I've been putting off planting some crepe myrtles for 10 years. What time of the year is best for planting anyway?
Late fall is best. Usually around middle of Feburary to mid March. I try to plant fruit trees after the first frost. This year, I had tomatoes in the gound by mid March.
I've got a couple of red ones beside my driveway. Rain water surely makes them lean over when they are blooming.
I have 9 of them the same color as EZ has.....I like them as the grow very fast and are very hearty. You can keep them pruned and cut back everyyear and keep them as a large shrub or you can let them go and they will become trees. I have been pruneing mine every Feb and keeping it about the size of EZ's but my wife wants me to let them go and really get big. One of my neighbors did that with his and they look great.
Got two in my backyard and they're getting out of hand. Planted too close to the house and want to rub against the house when the wind gets up, and yes I cut them back. They're nice tho.
Once you plant them you better like them! They are darn near impossible to get rid of. Dig em up, and new ones shoot up from the broken roots, can't even kill them with roundup.
IF YOU WANT TO KILL THE STUMPS. Cut the things down when the sap starts to go down in the fall. Put glyphosate (Roundup) on the stump full strength with a paint brush. It will not come back in the spring.
