A'ite, now it's your turn to help me trouble shoot something.

I mentioned that I rewired my trailer last week. All new wire and grounds, what I didn't mention is that other other an replacing one side marker light, I reused all lights and the existing wiring....I also mentioned that it turned out not to be the wiring but a blown trailer brake light fuse on the truck. Well, I fished Thursday without incident, but on Friday AM, had the guy walk up that was behind me and mention my tail lights are out.....haven't checked, but I'm sure I've blown another fuse.

Any suggestions on where and how to look for the short that's popping the fuse?

make sure your splices are sealed up good

Check to make sure that your bulb sockets are clean and that they are making a good connection against the bulb contacts. A lot of times these sockets get weak where the contacts press against the bulb and therefore cause a loose connection which builds up heat and in turn blow the fuse.

Another thing that I do is.....unplug my trailer lights before backing the trailer in the water....if water enters your lights it will sometimes blow a bulb and/or fuse.

Water is getting on something, I get trailers in here that have splice locks (i hate those things) always use a butt connector and on a boat the heat and seal type.

I always solder all of my connections then apply liquid tape and then heat shrink.

Hmmm....My tail lights are sealed and potted, but I'l bet they've developed a leak and that's my source of trouble. Although, I must admit I used the janky lock clips for the connections since I didn't have much time to do it. Guess I'll pull the lights and inspect them and redo the lock clips. Love them heat shrink but connectors, but dadgum they are high. I usually use the cheaper but splices and then seal with liquid tape.

Replace the trailer lights with LED type and stop all the problems.
