Humminbird Interlink Caution

I have had a 997C for a while now and put it on my new boat last fall. Just added an 858C to the bow and Interlinked the two. 997 has firmware version 4.95 and 858 had version 4.88 out of the box. Everything worked.

I went to update the 858 to version 4.97 only to find only version 5.21 available for download. After loading 5.21 to the 858, the two units will no longer communicate. The new firmware does appear to activate the ethernet port.

Be careful with your firmware versions to keep all of the equipment happy especially if you have new and older units. I guess I'll be contacting Humminbird to see if I can get either updated firmware for the 997 or more likely revert to a previous version for the 858 to get the Interlink working again.

Please let us know how this gets worked out. I have a 997 and am looking at a new unit for the front. Thanks

4.950 is the latest software version for the 997 units. I did not know they already put the 5.210 for the 858 units. Let me know if you need the older software for the 858 by sending me a direct e-mail requesting it.

Just thought about this: try calling the Humminbird Customer Resource folks at 1-800-633-1468 and find out the steps to reset the InterLink.
Was the InterLink connected to the 858 unit when you updated it?

I'll call Customer Resource later today. Yes, the Interlink was connected to the 858 when it was updated.

I just checked and the 997 still communicates with the Interlink.

I get a message about the software on the Interlink not being compatible with the 858 software when I start the 858.

greg so does this mean if we want to use interlink we are never going to be able to update our software beyond 4.950? that doesnt make much sense.

No it does not. Not sure that it was the software here but if so, I’m sure that there will be another software release that corrects it.

Update.

Unhooked 997 from Interlink and hooked 858 up as unit 1. Powered 858 with firmware version 5.210 and it reprogrammed Interlink. 858 and Interlink communicate ok. Hooked 997 up as unit 2 and powered 997. Got message on 858 that the software on the Interlink and the 997 are not compatible. Put firmware version 4.970 on 858 and unhooked 997 from Interlink. Interlink no longer shows as connected to either unit.

Called Customer Resources. Nice folks! Currently waiting on emails with instructions on how to reset Interlink and additional software for the Interlink.

Will update again once I get all the instructions and files I need.

Connectivity between units and Interlink was lost when I tried to step back from 5.210 to 4.970 on the 858. Both units show Interlink as unconnected on the status screen and there is no Interlink sub-menu under the accessories tab. It looks like I'll have to ship the Interlink to Humminbird to get it reprogrammed.
