i was wondering,do the sickle hooks get better hook ups?the shape of the hook is of course kina curved, looks like it might sink better than say a regular straight type of hook.looks also like it may have a circle hook type of behavior.

Only hook I use. Very, very, sharp.
i got the heads i ordered in the mail today, and decided to try the sickles ones this time.i don't have anything against regular hooks, but if these sickles hook up better i may just get them in the future
I like them because they seem to have a little wider gap than a standard eagle claw 570. I think they just look cool too!
I normally use a #4 regular jig hook but with a sickle jig hook I use a #6 because it actually has a slightly wider gap. The only disadvantage to a sickle hook that I have found is that if you straighten out and bend it back a few times it usually breaks. Those sickle hooks are for sure sharper and hook deeper in the mouth. My favorite size is almost impossible to find a #6 sickle jig with a 1/16 head.
They are sharp and have a wider gap which will mean more hookups for you. I've been using them for almost 6 years now. The shank is a little shorter than aberdeens. I believe they are the best hook you can buy in that price range. There are sharper hooks out there but they'll cost at least ten times more, usually.
You know, this is what makes this site so much fun. People have such different ideas on what works for them. Jiglip like a #6 hook in a 1/16 oz jig. 90% of mine are #2 with a few #1 thrown in. I guess if I ever start missing fish I will go smaller.
I just got my first bunch of sickles from Pbug, from 1/80 to 1/8, and they're great. Stick your finger in a pack of regular jig, then do the same with sickles. Big difference. Those I used today were hooking deeper in the mouth, regular hooks are frequently in the lips. I'll use em more from now on. But I will use up the regulars I have too.
What would be the norm as far as size hook on an 1/8th oz? I've never payed much attention b/c I've always bought from the store with little selection as to variation in hook size and truthfully never thought about it..... I'm thinking a #2 or #4?
