Ah, I was gonna ask the same questions. I've only used sickles once and I was walleye
fishing. I didn't have very good luck with them, losing quite a few fish at the boat I went
back to a 570 and eliminated the problem instantly. I've never tried them for crappie though
which probably will work. It seems to me when a fish gets its tail between its mouth and your
rod tip thats when the sickles will pop out. What do you think?
the sickle hook is kina curved.i would think it would behave a little like a circle hook which is also curved, and digs into the fish real good!if i go catfishing i will use circle hooks.this summer i've got buncha bullheads on them with power bait, also smooshed the bard down too so hook is easier to get out of the fish.
my sickles i pour myself...really i pour all my heads i use....i have from 1/80-1/4 in round heads....and 1/32-1/2 oz with barbs...
Crappiedoc, Try an Owners black nickle lightwire hook, they will never rust either.. The hooks are sewing needle sharp. Thats the only hook I will use crappie fishing, I have not lost one fish with them.
I got 500 through Capt Hooks and another 1000 from an auction on Ebay, and I've only had a few that were misformed. I pulled them out and when I had 15-20 sent them back and they were replaced.
Sharpness yeah they are!!!!!!! Untangle a box of a 1000 and you'll find out LOL. There was talk that they're QC wasn't all that great and they were trying to fix it. Don't have any of the new stock to compare against. Considering that they replace the ones that were misformed I'll keep buying them.

In the past couple months I've poured 4000 red sickles. I've probably had 20 that had a bad eye or were somehow not perfect. I think that's pretty good. I'll keep using them. Maybe Trokar will come out with a jig hook that costs $1.50 each. At least it would be sharp. I guess the green carp fisherman don't mind paying that much for a hook.
The problem with the Trokar hooks is that they dull quickly if the point doesn't roll over first.
Very good hook .most of my hook ups are right in the roof of the mouth.
