Fluid bed color mixing

Well as you can see it is not the best way to get a good color mix, well not one you can see anyway. This is the same as another members:
2 parts orange
2 parts yellow
1 part red

Not what I was going for but it did demonstrate that it is not best to mix similar colors together in a fluid bed if you want to see them all. When you look at it you can not see the mix unless you really focus. I doubt this is going to make much of a difference to a fish as it looks pretty much orange from a foot away. But who knows, maybe one color will show better and trigger a strike just because it is in there.

What does everyone think of these combos:
white, purple and pink
white, purple and orange
White, black and orange
White, black and pink
White, black and red
Candy red trans, black and white

Those colors should contrast a lot more and give a seriously measeled looking jig even in a fluid bed

Still debating in trying a metallic color but I need to really get an idea of what works because I don't have much of any of my metallics and I would hate to waste them on something that doesn't work.

Anyone have other combination suggestions that will show better?

Someone has to have done this with success in a fluid bed. There has to be a color combo that will work to give some sort of speckling that you can see.

Since no one likes the others, how about these?

Silver, gold or copper with black, purpler, red, orange or pink?

Just one metallic with a solid in a fluid bed. Idea is to give a metallic sheen or spotting to a color to catch light and give some flash to the jig head.

Best way to see what they look like is to try a couple. Post some pictures when your done. I'm going to experiment some more in a few days.

Well black and gold are in the oven, took before and after pictures but they look all gold which is completely reverse of what I expected. Had a really good mix in the fluid bed, looked like a dirty black gold so we will see when they come out. Maybe they will have some mottling or some other color mix when they are cured.

I have got to order more colors before I can mix any but as soon as I get them I will be trying a few of the mixes I have seen. The orange head is a good start and look forward to seeing some more of your mixes.

I might have had a different result with a lot less gold added but who knows. Not enough gold left to do a second trial with it.

This was a 50:50 mix, black with gold. As you can see, all it did was make the gold a duller gold. I am beginning to think that a fluid bed is a really bad way to mix colors and expect anything but a true mix. I would have thought the metallic would have done something with the black but it didn't. Oh well, may still try silver but I really doubt it will make much difference. But will try it with either red or Orange for a higher color contrast so who knows.

Maybe with a Candy apple red transparent it will show in some way or another.

Fluid bed mixing seems to be best to give a shade of colors or a new color from whatever you mix. If you really want to get a nice mix I owuld say dump and stir is gonna be the way to go.

One good thing though is you can mix metallics with colors and save money without dullng the metallic too much.

Wow - Your gold/black mix turned out the exact opposite as what i thought it would. I have no clue about powder painting and fluid beds, but a mix of 50% gold/50% black of liquid paint would most likely make a black with a very dull shine. With liquid paints, i start with a VERY small amount of the darker color, but obviously powder is much different. :D Maybe a ratio of 90 dark/10 light? But think this will still be off from the speckled look you are trying for just because it will blend the colors.

Ron Don - if you read this, what is that gold/black and silver/black marbled look you put on some of those ultra minnow heads for me? It had a pock marked lava look to it, but thinking it was a single color of something. It looked like what i "think" you are trying to do......

fish 4 all definitely like the orange and yellow and red jig head. Your color combination list is fantastic put them together and post them so we can see.
