Boat anchors

I have an 17 foot champion boat. How big and what type of anchor should I get and do i need 1 for each end?
I have never had a boat this size I owned a 2 man pelican for 7 years until last March when some jerk stole it!!!:(

I have a 18 1/2 ft Champ and have the same question as jomike. There is so many styles to choose from. Some have a solid round edge and some have like 3 or 4 claws. So not sure what everyone uses.

I posed this question on another site and the overwhelming answer was a "Water Spike". I had never heard of it so I looked it up on line. Cabelas has them; they are a little pricey (around $50) but they work great in ALL conditions. Have been below the dam on very windy days and it held the boat (19ft Alum) securely. They hold in muck, rock sand etc. and are very easy to retrieve. Imo worth every penny. Hope this helps you:)

I will check them out Jack. Not very often would I ever use one but would be nice to have in the boat on the days I do.

Jared, they are a little bulky as well, but they fold flat for storage. Don't use it very often myself, but it's the best one I have ever had.

i went to walmart and got one of those round 15 pound anchors for about $20, it holds my 17ft boat just fine, only have the one dont know that i would need two. i mostly troll in deeper waters after late may thru the summer and when i notice a big school of fish on the fish finder i will go past it a bit then throw the anchor out and let the wind drift me back over the spot where the fish are

Whats the problem here? Doesn't anyone have a mother inlaw they could use instead?

I have got an anchor in the boat myself. I have never used it so far, don't know if I got the right kind when I purchased it or not. I don't know if it will even hold my boat. Normally I am fishing around so many stumps and brush I just use either a rope or a stump grabber.

I have never used one but I know a few guys that have them and have read a lot of reviews on them and all was good. Basically when go to retrieve your anchor you just drop the float into the water and make a loop around the anchor to the upstream side. As you do this the anchor bouy is pulled under until the anchor lifts off the bottom. When the bouy resurfaces you simply pull the anchor in. This would work extremely well if you fish with women and children as well as for those of us with back or shoulder problems.

Nothing wrong with that Rugs just the rope is a little small for me. I am always afraid of cutting my hands on small rope, maybe if I didn't put so many hooks in my fingers it would be better.
