WB or Don Don
I figure most could answer this but since you to have more electronics than BPS I figured I would ask yall. Plus it gives you another way to bump your bogus post cont:D
Do either of you use a Ram mount to mount electronics? I have both FF mounted w/out one and they are fine no probs what so ever. However my Combo unit is on front deck and reg FF on console, so I thought about getting a Ram Mount to mount my handheld GPS on the console beside my FF. Either of you done this? My boat is a G3 and Im worried about the plastic console and breaking the screws out. Just a thought here but those little things you put in the wall to screw screw's into (dont know the name but I know yall know what Im talking about), you think that would work or what about just useing washers and screws.
Any thoughts?
thanks
Robert

Robert, the little things in walls are anchors. I don't think that would be a good idea. It would be best to use a piece of flat aluminum with bolts to reinforce the plastic. I'm sure Wb will go into great detail tomorrow. I would ignore any advice DD gives you, as he is a jack leg gewber!

HAHAHAHA I figured WB would go to great detail but hey all suggestions are welcome(Yours to DD):D
I thought they were wall anchors just couldnt get the name off the tip of my toung LOL. I thought about a plate of some type under there would be best bet but thats my problem, no idea where to find one.
Wonder if a piece of wood under the console would work? It would be hidden from the elements and from the eyes.

You should be able to find a metal plate to use at most any hardware store.

I held a piece of 3/4 inch plywood behind the plastic on my G3 and screwed through the plastic and into the ply wood. A little glue ( liquid nails) on the plywood wouldn't hurt a thing either.

Thanks Freelay, I will go check out Lowes and HD and see whatthey got.
G3, I was thinking that would work. Im a little neat freak so what ever I decide to do is going to look right or I just want do it. Thanks for the tips guys

Save You Some Drilling
You're talking about a regular handheld, right? I'll try and track it down but for about 25-20 bucks that have these 3 inch suction cups for salt water fishing that you pump up to tighten the grip on a smooth flat surface. I've seen them use 4 of them on boats before with a rack to hold up air tanks for scuba diving They are sturdy. They also have a 1/4 inch screw hole in the middle of them so you can mount your handheld on there. Best thing is NO DRILLING but IF you want to drill, make sure you put some kinda backing on the inside of where you mount it. I was talking about using a piece of sheet metal for support but a few on here said to use some plywood. Main thing is support the back side of it so it won't pull through and damage your boat

Just dont mount it upside down like some jackleg gewber that was mentioned above did his transducer. IT WONT WORK!!! You will have squigglely lines on your screen won't ya upsiDeDownDucer Don ?

Here ya go Duck
RAM Mounting Systems, Inc. > Products > Suction Cup Mounts
Just pick in the type of handheld you have and it'll give you options for a RAM mount

Darn right Minner
I was just scared of breaking the darn thing. Spend that kinda money, you tend to be overly cautious on snapping things
