    Default Trolling on Lake Erie

Got invited to go walleye fishing out of Ashtabula,Ohio port with my buddy Tom. He’s a longtime friend that helped teach me the ropes on trolling for deep water walleye. The lake wasn’t bad with one to two foot rollers from the northeast. We motored out to 57ft and dropped lines. We used spoons and shallow diving stickbaits to start. Was slow for the first half hour but as we got farther west the bite picked up. We had three fish on a couple times. Wind died down to just one footers and made it more comfortable in his eighteen ft Lund. Had four eyes in the box when a steelhead tried to rip the rod out of the holder. Took a few minutes to get it into the boat. He jumped three times while I reeled it in. Heart pounding. Didn’t want to lose it. Into the box he went after a couple pics. He weighed over seven pounds. We continued to catch eyes until we reached our twelve fish limit. Some really nice fish. Wasn’t ready to leave so we trolled the break wall area for steelhead for another hour. Boated one of two. Had a great time. Hope to get out again. When I got home and started cleaning the fish, one of my daughters came by and fished my deep freezer like she had a ten foot rod in her hands. She took home walleyes steelhead crappies white and largemouth bass hamburger and more. Thought she was going to need a wagon to carry it all. Haha. All good tho. Here’s some pics.

We have been killing the walleye off of Lorain the past few weeks. Been getting limits and more within 2 hours then off to the cleaning station at Avon Lake. Going Friday so we will see what this blow did to the water clarity and fishing.

Lake Erie- The walleye capital of the world. I just wish we had our yellow perch back.

Those are some really good fish and with a bonus steelhead. They really put up a nice fight. It sure has been a lot of fun fishing Erie this year. The fish really have been hitting everything you throw at them, I fish out of Conneaut and hate to see it coming to at our end at our side of the lake.
