    Cool Night bite

Has anyone done any good fishing at night with underwater lights on some of our better lakes, Pymatuning,Conneaut, Wilhelm, etc.?? Crappies? Walleyes? Catfish? Seems like it would be good to get you out of the heat and the wind but wonder if fishing is any good. Also a little concerned about leaving a vehicle in the parking lot all night. Anyone have any thoughts on the matter?!?!

Last July I was at Pymatuning and went out about 9pm until 2am in 11 to 13 fow. Used a floating light. It only took about 10 min. before I saw the plankton, then the small minnies, and the larger minnies, then some flashes of crappie. Was there about 30 min. or so and had a large school of gills circling the boat. I have a 16' boat and the school was about 6' wide. I fished deeper for the crappie and 4' to 5' for gills. Had about 2 dozen minnies and used them all plus some jigs. Only kept 8 crappies and 13 gills. I don't keep crappie under 10"and gills were 7" to 8". I could see my truck in the parking lot and the Park Patrol and State Police have been patrolling more. Or if you don't take a boat you can try your luck at Espyville Marina under the lights off the walkway.

Thank you! Some good info there. I think I'm going to try it some night soon. Seems like the only way to get some fishing in with all this heat!!!

If your thinking of hitting Shenango, I would only launch at the camp ground parking lot. Make sure that the trailer is secure to the vehicle. Use locks on both the trailer hitch and the tow bar. You could also lock up the chains. Some people also mess up the threads on the ball below the nut.

Haven"t fished for a while Paul--hurt my back and am rehabbing in physical therapy. Back in the day when we trout fished a lot we always fished the same local western pa lakes out of a boat and did well with lites and lanterns just anchoring up in deeper water. We would start at dusk and stay till 2 or 3. we would get crappie and trout but mostly small ones.
