    Default Central PA reports & chat

    I know, everyone has their own defination of "Central PA", I'm figuring within an hour and a half of Harrisburg - some might consider it South Central.
    But anyway, I figure I'm not the only one from this area, so it seems we should have a thread to share reports and such.
    Feel free to post as much or as little information as you want, keeping in mind that many of our lakes are small and there is no shortage of lurkers searching for the hot bite.

    Since I posted it, I'll go first;

    Sadly, my spring/summer/fall fishing is restricted to one day a week due to work. The payoff is that I get a five month vacation over the winter.
    Yesterday, Sunday, I headed to a lake near Pottsville where there is a decent crappie population. I was there a week earlier and struggled to catch one crappie along with one gill, one perch and some bass.
    The water temp had actually droped during the past week, from 54 to 52..........erg. The wind was some of the worst I've fished in and despite my best efforts I left without a single crappie, or gill or perch for that matter. I did get a couple bass and pickeral.............but no crappies. I fished shallow, deep, in the weeds, on the sand, on the drops, outside the drops, all to no good. On the plus side, I had almost the whole lake to myself..........maybe next week.

    Byron, welcome to CDC and the Pa board. Where people make their mistake is posting pictures, just after catching a fish and taking a picture, that shows the surrounding back ground, that lurkers look for. And pictures of your boat, aren't a good idea either, as they will look for it and follow you, as one member here has found out. But just giving the name of the lake shouldn't hurt any thing. Sounds like you had a good day, and then a not so good day, but you didn't get skunked.

    I fished Lake jean and PPL lake last week. No crappies to be had and only one bluegill. I landed several nice bass and large amounts of pickerel at Lake Jean. The bass are full of eggs right now, but just haven't stumbled across any crappies.

    I always enjoy fishing Jean, although I mostly fish it latter in the year, and rarely catch any crappies. I'll be at PPL next weekend I hope........

    I had a hot tip on Pincho last week. I guess I was a week or so late because the tree that was hot did not hold any crappie. At least I did not catch a fish. Wish I had a good report. Maybe next time.

    Default Crappie bite is heating up in central PA

    Had a pretty good day on Howard Lake today.
    The water temp was at 59* at first light and was at 63* at 7:30PM when I left the water.
    Caught around 80 crappie and managed 16 keepers and a couple nice gills.
    The next couple weeks should be very productive in central PA!

    Nice to hear some reports. With Mothers day on my one day off, I didn't get out. But Mom spent much of her younger years driving me to fishing locations, so I do not mind missing a day for her.
    It seems that water temps are starting to creep up and I'm already looking forward to the weekend.............
