A 3lb'r is not unbelievable although I would like to see the pic too, till then I would doubt it. If it was a true 3lb + fish, my guess is that it was not a bluegill but a probably a shellcracker.

If the guy put it under the knife and since it does not qualify for a state record, I doubt that he is trying to make it headline news.

No, but I thought pics or discussion might be on some other board. None of the local boards I checked had any mention of it.
