My son and I got an early start on Christmas and hit a local reservoir today. We went in search of yellow perch and everything else. I'm going to include the perch here, because it appears the perch board has died. The water was 48° +/- and it was very windy. We found some perch in a cove (8-12 feet) and set anchor. Caught quite a few perch and threw many back. I think we kept 15.
My son decided to try worms and began catching shellcrackers. The odd thing was, they were all very nice. He caught about ten or so before I put a worm on. I caught a couple nice ones, but this was his day for crackers. We kept about 9-10 cracker/gills. We also caught some crappie for the mix.
I caught all my perch and the crappie on minnows and or jigs. All shellcracker caught on worms with one gill caught on a minnow. We also caught perch on the worms.
