    Caught several nice ones today in the Perquimans River , lotsa little ones too, but all fun and all released for another day / angler?

    Nice fish Pat. Do you live around Hertford? I fish over there from time to time. There are some nice gills there. CF

    Those are some nice dark river gills. Did you notice that the river gills fight harder than their lake or pond kin?

    That one on the top is probably the darkest gill I've ever seen! Nice fish!

    Yes. Catfish Hunter was. He had a farm there with a red barn with a big baseball painted on the doors. I did not know him but have a buddy who knew him well. Catfish showed him the ins and outs of pitching and catching and was well on his way to career in baseball until his shoulder exploded. Now He farms down the road from me. Never heard anything bad about him.

    Those dark gills come out of tannin stained water. Cypress trees line the banks of the Perquimans river(Hertford). They really get black in there at times. CF
