    I think there is a glare off the body of the fish in the photo. Many of what I see locally are very dark like this one, almost blackish green with not a lot of detailing in the vermiculation. Others will have colorations that vary widely. It gives me wide latitude as to how to paint them for my customers. I usually keep photos of many different colorations and ask the client how he wants it to look.

    Smile colors

    I agree that there are many different colorations, depending on water, feed, time of year, etc. I have caught them almost black and also caught them with alot of yellowish/greenish tinges with molted spots.
    Also body shape is almost bluegill-ish. That is almost an 11 inch fish, seems like a redear would be much more elongated. That is why I was wondering about some hybridization going on there.
    Cool fish anyway you look at it.
