    tried 3 different gulp baits a dozen times and never caught a thing. I would switch to worms and wear the gills out.

    Live bait, fished properly, will outfish Gulp, or any other artificial, two to one, sometimes ten to one depending on conditions. I do keep a jar of the 1" Gulp minnows in my tackle bag, as I've found they are one of the better lures for bluegill, though I don't as a rule do as well with them as I do crappie sliders; but when I really need to catch fish, or am after very big bluegill, I fish live bait 90% of the time. But even with live bait, presentation is key: using 4- or 6-lb. line, for instance, can mean the difference between lots of fish and no fish, as can using a small aberdeen (#6 or 8) hook as opposed to a crappie-sized hook, or using little to no weight as opposed to a clump of 3/0 split shot, or hooking a redworm or mealworm lightly once so it can wriggle as opposed to threading it onto the hook and killing it instantly, etc.

    Crickets= Brown

    Worms= "Reddish" Brown (not really what color you'd consider them?)

    Maggots= White

    Maybe it's color and not bait?

    You ain't kidding they like them. I cleaned a bunch yesterday that were full of them. Also, Rebel makes a cat-r-crawler crankbait that gills love. It looks just like them.

    the cat-r-crawler is discontinued i believe. it isn't in their catalog and i rarely have seen it on store shelves in years. i was never crazy about it because it was sinking. didn't make sense to me having it sinking when its more likely water around the shore is going to be shallow.

    old thread?? well maybe somebody will get some use out of it anyway; the gulp 1" minnows work great, and so do the crickets, i've never tried the maggots, but live nightcrawlers and live crickets are tough to beat
