checking the weather I saw that 10mph winds were on tap for the day so the boat was out for the morning. Mid thirties for temps tends to keep me away from open windy places. I bundled up and headed out with a couple of small boxes and three rods and off I went. Went to the tailrace at a local dam and exercised my arms some cuz there were no fish found. I guess they haven’t stocked yet. Up to the rip rap above where I was to try for whatever I might find. A small Zman minnow profile body on a 1 gram head gave me some good casting distance. I also learned that I don’t bounce from rock to rock like I used to, kinda sketchy. A couple of branches deserved a couple of casts and one payed off with a good solid thump. Using a 6’ TroutX rod with a 1000s Legalis and 4lb braid. The wind made me pay attention to my casts. The thump was a good fish that put a good bend in the rod and the drag to sing a good bit. I first thought it would be a little smallmouth as he came to the surface just a splashing. Good fish close to 12” that went back after he became famous. He beat up the Zman bait that was already leftover from a previous trip so I changed out and put on a lighter curl tail. I wasn’t climbing any more rocks and I was ready to go so I headed home, I hadn’t been out for about an hour. A good short trip that put a recharge in my system. Hope Y’all get out for a bit soon and find at least one good fish too. Til next time……Skeet
