Ya know ... the (so called) experts say that a Blacknose doesn't fight any harder than a regular Black Crappie -- but I beg to differ !! They are the only Crappie I've had JUMP plum outta tha water on being hooked. It's happened more than once, but the best "air show" I've seen was when I stuck one in a tree top on the right side of my buddy's Tracker TX17 and had it jump out of the water & completely over the front end of the boat & splashed down several feet past the left side of the boat. That was all the fish's doing, as at the time I was fishing with a 5' UL rod & 4# line, so I know I sure didn't jerk that fish that distance.
And there's been quite a few times where I've correctly called it being a Blacknose ... before even seeing the fish ... just from the little extra hard pull & run they did vs regular Black Crappie of similar size, that were being caught in the same area.
Now, I've had some 'big mama' White Crappie roll/flop at the surface upon being stuck, but never had one go airborne !!
