    Default First crappie

With the Eradicator. I was lucky enough to to get a 6’7” slow taper special sent to me after a catastrophic break and was told to do as I wished. It was broken where the blank enters the handle cleanly. The good in that is that there isn’t much bending going on down that part of the rod. I repaired it with a spline added from the bottom and it went smoothly. I’m happy as could be with it and it fishes very nicely. I put a Daiwa regal 1000s on it and while I love the reel, the twitch master line and I didn’t get along. Most of the problem was with the operator and not the line. The spool was a bit overfull and the line didn’t stay put properly like most overfull spools do. I’ve used braid so long that I tend to work the mono like the braid and that doesn’t work. I connected with a nice largemouth about a couple of pounds this afternoon. He was doing good and coming towards me and I lifted to get a better look and the line broke. I swapped the Regal for a Soare BB with some braid for next trip. But back to my original train of thought. I pulled up to where I’d gotten a few crappie last week and while I didn’t set the world on fire I did get a few. This one was the biggest before the bite shut down and I went in search of.

It was fun and the rod had a nice bend to it. A few small gills and a Gar was about all there was to it. About an hour and a half in perfect warm sunny conditions. Here’s a pic of the rod. See if you can see what’s different from the factory rod. Thanks for reading along, and I hope y’all get out and stay warm……Skeet

Nice crappie and fix on the rod. With my eyes I can't see the fix.

No clue the fix. Maybe the slight ridge near the butt end. Good job. I too love the Daiwa Regal 1000.

Nice, Skeet! That was a strange place for a break, and with that repair you have a terrific JDM in your collection. Glad to hear it still fishes great!
