Sunny , with Temps in the low 50’s today , so you got to go fishing and compare a couple more combos , Right ?
But what about the wind ? 14mph with gusts over 27 out of the West . If it’d been cloudy or cooler , I would have stayed home .
Fishing from the sunny side of the town pond , facing the pond , the wind was primarily blowing from about four o’clock. I wish it’d been behind me .
I took my 6’6” TFO Trout & Panfish II , paired with a KastKing Zephyr 1000 SFS , new model . 2# Floroclear is being used on all reels unless noted .m
The other combo was a 4’10” Major Craft Finetail Glass UL , paired with a Shimano Stradic 1000FJ , the old white one .
I started with the MC Glass , casting a 4.6mm tungsten jig with a mini trout magnet body .
I caught a couple LM bass that were a treat on the little glass stick .
Using the MC glass rod I didn’t feel handicapped at all . My casts were as long as I’ve been getting with my longer rods and I had no problem feeling the .87g jig , even with the wind .
I switched over to the longer TFO rod and was surprised I didn’t get any casting advantage with the longer rod and this is with the KK SFS reel that was the winner last year in my driveway casting experiments I did last year .
I caught a LM on the TFO and then switched over to a 3.0mm tungsten hair jig under a float . Fishing the float n jig I managed to catch a couple of nice bluegills. It took several casts with a slow retrieve to catch the gills . I caught one just letting the wind blow the rig , drifting from my right to left . A good way to cover some area .
I put up the TFO and took the MC Glass to the other side of the pond .
It was tough being on the side with the wind blowing almost directly into the bank . I found one corner where I was able to work my jig enough to catch a couple more small LM’s .
Five LM and two bluegills in almost two hours of fighting with the wind . Still fun getting out .
I plan on swapping the reels and taking the MC Glass back next trip with the KastKing SFS reel .
