Two days later I’m back at the Town pond .
Yesterday, it was rain accompanied by a cold front that dropped last night below freezing again.
I waited until after one o’clock for the temperature to hit forty , almost the expected high of 41 .
It was sunny but with a 10-15mph wind out of the NNW making it feel like the low thirties .
I get to the pond , all bundled up , three layers on upper , fleece lined cargo pants lower , and boots .
Just before I left , Amazon dropped off my new wool KastKing fishing gloves . The pinky and next finger are full, the rest have the tips of my fingers exposed for fishing .
I started off fishing a drop shot rig with woolybooger on my St Croix Panfish series 5’4” rod paired with an old Shimano 500 reel , a Sienna with a Sedona spool and 3# Floroclear .
Back then Shimano produced a 4.7/1 reel even in there lower priced reels .
I fished the sunny side and the wind was tough . Made my exposed fingers feel like ice cubes . No bites after fan casting the area .
I packed up and walked to the shaded side with my hands in my pockets to warm up my finger tips .
After a few casts without anything on the drop shot , while hiding next to a tree trying to get out of the wind .
While in the process of switching baits to a 4.6mm Mini TM , the wind blew away my woolybooger fly and while tying on my jig , I hooked the tip of my new gloves and had to mash down the barb to get it loose without messing up my gloves .
With 3# Floroclear instead of my normal 2# , my distance suffered by 15’ or more depending on my timing of wind .
Just before leaving I tried the corner flat , just because the bank had some sun on it .
I hooked a small LM bass to keep the skunk away .
It was a challenging day but I did find out I could handle forty degrees for about an hour maybe a little longer .
I’m sure with a little less wind, it would have been better .
As long as it’s sunny , I think I could handle lower temps if the wind didn’t blow like it has .
