I fought the wind today , and I guess I won ,
I caught three UL bass that kept me from stinking it up .
We had clouds last night , with an early morning shower. Temps stayed in the forties .
By 11:30 it was sunny , with 14-28mph winds .
But I needed to scratch that itch .
Went to the town pond armed with a 6’ TFO T&P 2 , paired with a Shimano Soare bb500sspg with a Nasci spool and handle , spooled with 3# Floroclear.
The other combo was a St Croix 6’6” Avid UL , paired with same reel but with 2# Floroclear .
I was comparing Floroclear to Daiwa braid in the wind .
The Floroclear was a little more manageable in the wind and the 2# cast farther than the 3# or the Daiwa braid in, both with just a jig and a float and jig rig . The added six inches of rod probably helped a little too .
I mainly fished my tungsten jigs with a mini trout magnet , but tried a couple of handtied rabbit fur jigs , but didn’t get bit .
Surprisingly two of my bass were caught twitching with a mini trout magnet and a .88g tungsten jig . Loss another one . That was on the TFO
I only fished the St Croix for about thirty minutes, but caught the biggest bass on a lighter tungsten jig and float .
Couldn’t find a bluegill or any panfish .
May start targeting the bass during this time of year with a little heavier jig and slightly larger plastic bait . Maybe a regular size trout magnet.
Anytime on the water is fun for me . I don’t discriminate on what decides to bite .
