I was trying to decide which rod combo to take to the pond today , because, lately I’ve been doing some float n jig fishing , but thought I’d like to do a little twitching if the float n jig fishing slacked off .
Because I only take one rod with me when I’m bank fishing . I sometimes take several in the vehicle , if where I park is somewhat close to where I’m fishing .
Fishing at the pond It’s about a quarter of a mile from where I park to the corner of the dam where I like to start lately . Mainly because it’s has shade .
I like a long rod for float n jig fishing , but prefer a short rod for twitching. I feel I have better control , and feel more connected to my jig .
Today I picked the 6’ St Croix Avid Panfish. Although I’m not crazy about twitching with this rod , it turned out to work pretty good for both methods today .
Paired with an old Shimano Stradic 1000fl , spooled with light gray Daiwa J-Braid and a 4# Floroclear leader .
I caught two shellcrackers and a nice bluegill using the float method and then took the float off .
I had to go to a Little heavier jig to get any distance with a breeze blowing toward me from about two o’clock. The wind put a nice bow in my line but i was able to feel the hits pretty good and caught nine more fish twitching .
Fishing at the pond I need a somewhat long rod to assist me in getting my catches through the water vegetation and up the banks .
A dozen total in just under a hour and a half. I call that a successful morning.
I can see the pond changing with each trip , the water is turning a brown color as the level is dropping again .
I’m going to miss the pond when I go back to fishing my other local spots as they stabilize after the historic rain we had .
I consider myself lucky the storm shifted a little east before tuning west as it went by our area .
Continued prayers for those not so lucky .
