My Week is Done
While I did not have as many quality fish as in my previous trips to Lake Poinsett it was still a very good trip. Wife and I fished there on Thursday and closed out on a great couple of days fishing. She caught our first crappie. The lake is full of crappie but I have not sought them out. Been too busy catching shell cracker. Had about 60 fish with majority being juvenile shell cracker in the 7-8 inch range. Those fish can sure give me a ton of fun on the Diplomat Extreme 62 UL using the 1.75# test Varivas ES2 Lemoni Ester line. Had several of the large bluegill there in the 8-9 inch range. Hard to believe that lake was bone dry less than 3 years ago. Only fished for about 4 hours then pulled out and tried a local restaurant there. Had a good dinner and made the 68 mile drive back home.

Thanks. I have not yet found a creek on the lake but there may be one. I just wonder what size the bluegill were when they put them in. I know the whole lake was dry as a bone for a while. I have also done battle with 2 bass that were 6 pounds or better that both grabbed a hold of 8 inch plus bluegill I had hooked. Didnt get either bass in but I saw them. It was built in 1961 but totally revamped to the tune of 3 million bucks in 2021. I have only seen pics but it looked like it was totally dry. They rebuilt part of the dam and reconstructed the 35 foot tall concrete drain outlet. But Im with you there had to be some water coming in somewhere. It was always known as a great bass and shell cracker lake.

I read the lake was built for water control on Distress Creek .
Because of bank erosion, they drained it , made repairs, and once it reach a certain level , they restocked .
It’s a State Park and looks like a great place to visit . Enjoy !
