Bass keep eating my gills

The past few gill trips I've made have gotten interrupted with bass grabbing my hooked gills. Five times in those trips bass have grabbed my gill and got my heart rate up but didn't land any. Usually they spit it but last one broke off after a short fight. A couple times had several bass chasing the same hooked gill. They missed the gill a lot. Lot's of times bass would be right under the gill and gill would turn so the bass didn't have a good angle and missed the gill. Lot's a fun just watching these bass and how they react to these struggling gills. First two pics are gills that got attacked. They were hurting but swam away.
