    Default 7-16-24 Weekly Meet up

It’s been a few weeks since my fishing buddy and I met up to chase whatever we can find .
With mid 90’s predicted , it was in the upper 80’s when we met at our favorite lake .
The park we chose was for its shade opportunities. .
We fished from around 11 to almost 2:30 .
My buddy caught about fifteen small gills and a couple small bass .
Constantly changing techniques and baitsi was able to land 25 , mostly a variety of panfish , a couple chunky green sunfish , a small bass and the best fighter of the day , a catfish that hit a bison Trout Magnet .
I’m not sure what kind of catfish I caught . The coloration and shape made me think it was a channel cat, but it had a small mouth . A smaller mouth than any catfish I’ve ever caught before.
Put up a nice fight on my 4’11 Major Craft Finetail glass rod paired up with a Shimano Soare bb500spg spooled with Daiwa J braid and a 3# Floroclear leader .
The bank where I was fishing was a few feet above the waterline and I wasn’t sure the 3# leader would hold . But I waited for a paise in the catfish’s flopping and grabbed the line once I rod lifted it onto the bank .
I’m glad I had the braid and heavier leader today .
When I fished boat ramps , I simply slid big fish up the ramp before grabbing them . It’s not that easy bank fishing .
I need to start taking my net with me . It was in the car .

Anybody have an idea what kind of catfish I caught yesterday?
Doing a search , closes thing I found was a white catfish aka white bullhead.
But they have a wide regular catfish type of mouth .
Now, I’m thinking this might be an invasion species someone turned loose.
Probably should have thrown it in the woods but I’m always trying to snap a quick picture and get the fish back in the water asap , especially during hot weather.

I have never seen a catfish like that. It does kind of look like the little ones people have in their aquariums.

That’s a gray spotted whisker trout. Looks like y’all had a bang up time all in all. Sure beat my day.

    Tim , that’s a good name for it .
I hooked it in an area where I had caught some really nice shellcracker last fall .
Put up one heck of a fight . I could tell it wasn’t a shellcracker after the first couple of runs and the way I could feel every thump of its tail .
I would never have landed it on the 2# Floroclear I used to use , without a net .

Looks like a Channel Cat to me. I guarantee it was a fun fight on your bream rod.
