Default Nothing but Gills , except

Fished the Town pond for about an hour and a half this morning.
Started out fishing my 5’6” 13 Fishing Omen T&P rod with a KastKing Zephyr SFS 1000 reel and just didn’t care for the way the rod felt . Felt heavy in the hand .
I just happened to have an Abu Garcia Mass Beat 3 travel rod in the car , so I swapped the reel to it .
Fished the sunny side for a few minutes and caught a couple nice bluegills , got too hot and walked over to the shady side .
I caught two more bluegills and two shellcrackers .
Just as I was about to leave I hooked into the fish of the day . It took me for a ride .
Up and down the bank with the Zephyr’s carbon drag just a singing .
I didn’t think I’d be able to get it close enough to at least see what it was .
Didn’t act like a bass , they usually try to jump .
I worked the fish for over fifteen minutes and finally started making progress getting it closing .
I got it all the way up to the moss and it was something I’d never caught out of the Town pond . One ugly catfish. It was black and white with sores all over it .
While I was trying to make up my mind whether I wanted to attempt to grab it or even touch it , it looked so bad .
It flopped , kicked and broke my 2# line . I watched as it swam away.
I got what I wanted out of it , a good battle .

Good story of a good trip. Like you said, you got the best of the whisker trout. They fight so hard! Your other fish look good, gotta love the crackers. Nice to have other rods for back up. Since your posts I’m narrowing down my bestie. The 5’6” is sure a good caster so far. Wind got stoopid and I had to quit but I have more questions I need answered.

I like a 5’6” , it seems to be almost the perfect rod length, not too short , but long enough for decent casting.

Channel Cat? Caught a half dozen last year in the creeks and were better fighters compared to any other species of same size and like the way they hit a lure hard. Nicest fish I caught in creek this year so far was one and without net close by had to release in the water on bank. Do you think the previous bad pond water was reason for such bad condition? Those other fish you caught are all nice especially that first Gill!
