Thread: Back to the Pond

After catching a decent bluegill at the pond yesterday, I wanted to give it another try and see if I could find some more .
I also wanted to try out a rod/reel combo . A 7’ Daiwa Procyon UL paired with a Daiwa Exceler 2500LT spooled with some 2# P-Line Floroclear.
Jig was a 1/32 Trout Magnet with a Sowbug body to start .
First two fish caught were small bass . Then I swapped rods to my 6’3” Abu Garcia Mass beat 3 but with the Exceler 2500Lt reel .
The seven foot Procyon combo did extend my casts as I hoped but the rod would noodle a little during the cast. And the rod felt heavy compared to my Abu Garcia .
I really couldn’t tell any difference in my casting distance using the Abu Garcia with the 2500 size reel . I think that had a lot to do with the solid tip and the fact that the rod had little vibration during the cast .
I beginning to think I should have ordered the 2000 in the Abu Garcia Beast . They weigh the same .
I did catch two bluegills and another bass before my two hours was up and I headed home for lunch.
I’ll be making some more trips to the town pond .
