Sitting here feeling sorry for myself and occured to me there is a place within reasonable distance of here, I might find some crappies this spring. Columbia River. First crappie I ever caught was out of Brownlee Res on the Snake River, got it by accident! Few years later fishing for bass just off the Columbia on the mouth of the John Day I got another crappie by accident. Was using a 1/4oz jig with an auger tail on it. Never really though about it much after that, long drive up there. Sitting here it occured to me it's no farther than my favorite spot, Prineville Res! Prineville is destroyed for lack of water now and probably destroyed the fish in it to! Ochoco Res was a good spot but also out of water so nothing going there. Only about 50 mi to Ochoco, closer than Prineville Res. So I think this spring I'll just go up off the Columbia and target crappie and see how it works! Supposed to be good channel cats in there also! All I've got out of there is bullheads and smallmouth bass so far, other than the one crappie!
