    Default Winter gill chasing

According to the calendar, It’s not officially winter yet .
But it’s been below freezing at night for about a week now . And with a small pond the water temps drop pretty fast .
Today , when I left the house it was 49 and sunny, but with winds around 8-10mph . The temp on the dash said it was fifty when I parked around 11:45am .
The sun didn’t last but about an hour and the clouds rolled in and the wind became a little gusty .
I had decided last night to go micro today . Mini Trout Magnet on a black 1/200th jighead , size 14 hook . After a couple of 10-12’ cast , I decided a float was needed . A 3/4” weighted snap on .
First cast with the float n jig on my 6’ Daiwa X AT Trout XUL paired with a Daiwa Fuego LT 1000d and I caught a small bluegill.
I caught five and decided with the size gills I was catching, I should switch to my 5’6” Iprimi XXUL combo .
I switched after catching five small gills , but switched back when I reached ten .
Just enjoyed fishing with the Trout X AT XUL more .
Ended up with 17 , no monsters , but a few of them pulled pretty good .
There were three other folks fishing and one walker said I was the only one he saw catching anything.
Left at 1:30 , it was overcast and 52 degrees .
Glad I was able to get out .
