I fished the town pond this morning.
I spent an hour or two rearranging and respooling spinning combos yesterday and because I only had an hour to fish this morning I grabbed a flyrod and fly bag as I took off to the pond around 9 .
When I arrived , a family of seven had about half of the shady side covered up and one of my rules fishing and life really , I treat folks the way I would like to be treated.
So I went to the far corner of the dam where the wind had blown all of the slime all morning.
I threw a size 8 woolybooger, hoping to latch into a green trout , but nothing wanted to put a bend in my TFO 6’ 2wt .
I switched over to a floating beetle, trying to coax a gill into biting , before finally tying on one of my sinking rubber legged spiders .
Nothing .
At the forty minute mark I decided I’d fight the sun and fish around the bridge for my last fifteen minutes I had left .
First cast on the back side of the bridge and I saw my line move and when I raised my little rod to set the hook , I brought back an empty tippet .
Upon inspection, thinking my knot had slipped , the line looked like it’d been cut . Had to have been one of the many turtles that hang out around the bridge waiting for a free meal from the numerous folks who feed them and the geese .
I retied and switched to the front side of the bridge where I tangled my fly on the bridge .
Once on the bridge , and no walkers around I decided to try a few casts from the bridge. ( there’s a sign posted saying “ No Fishing from the Bridge “
I threw up against the bank on the opposite side that I usually fish and hooked into the skunk killer . I nice 7-8” bluegill.
My hour expired and I was about to , fishing in the direct sun . I can’t handle more than about fifteen minutes in full sun .
One is better than none![]()
