    Default Back to bed

Right about now you’re expecting me to tell of being lazy and going back under the covers. Not so, though I did think about it. The full moon was still hanging in the western sky this morning and that got me moving. I put in about 7 sumthin and got to fishing my normal first stop. The rod bent a few times and the fish were good. I didn’t realize til I was back to fishing that I’d gotten the first three fish in five minutes.

Now I’m getting excited at the thought of how good it might be today. Other spots near the first didn’t give any up but I was still confident. I used the tiny rod again today with a President 20 and 2lb line that I believe to be fireline crystal. It’s just so much fun that I can’t put it down. The Itty Bitty slab slayer in double silver rainbow on a 1/43 got all the play today. I tried some other colors with no results. After the first area played out and I moved on a bit is when things began to happen. Deeper drop off banks held all the fish. Some were off he bank some but if it was a tapered, shallow bank there was no fish. I pitched within 6” of the bank and my drag wasn’t real tight and got the thump. When the line came tight the drag lit up and all kind of commotion started splashing and pushing the weeds around. I had to palm the spool to get him away from the junk. This fish fought twice as hard as the bull gills I’d gotten so far. Shellcracker, just over ten inches.

First one of size this year. Tightened my drag a little and went lookin for more. I spent the next couple of hours within a hundred yards of where I caught that first cracker. Got a few more gills, all over 9”, and the drag sung again hard after the hit. I’m liking this!

And then his cousin got in on it.

All of these guys fight so much harder than the others. But then the acrobat showed up. Thump, hookset and he’s airborne!! And they don’t want to give up.

This last bluegill wasn’t liking the idea of the old guy getting his hands on him and gave me a real hard time but he held still for a pic before he slid back into the pool. I’m thinking the full moon we’re coming off of had some of the gooduns back on the beds. They were mostly clustered up where they’ve bedded in past years.

Pulled about 11:30 and made my appointment after gas and a bite, getting ready for tomorrow. I’m told that somewhere about the end of the third week I’ll start feeling bad so I want to enjoy while I feel up to it.this was a great trip and the heat ran me off. I would have kept looking if I’d been more comfy. Thanks for looking, I sure had a fun time. Hope to see you out soon……Skeet
