A total eclipse happened around Midnight Sunday night and the Old Orb in the southern sky turned as orange as a true UT fan. Monday was supposed to be stormy so a Tuesday trip was planned to hopefully take advantage of the bedding behavior of the beautiful and tasty Bluegill.

I arrived early at the ramp and while waiting on my partner for the day I quickly scored an 8 and a 9in bull on a close by bed.

The 1in EPF Swim by Eurotackle tipped with a nibble fooled the first 10 fish of the morning. The Avani SW Finesse with a Varivas Titanium coated 3lb leader was strung up for battle on both the Olympic GraphiteLeader Corto and the ABU Eradicator Real Finesse.

A watermelon Nikko worm fooled a fair share of keepers, only 8-8.5in were kept today….all 9s or better were to be released. Soon fellow CDCOM member VA Crappie Man showed up and quickly scored his share of the old cricket crunchers.

Scaring the 9in mark he was on his choice of micro plastics, I knew it was a matter of time before he hit the magic number. If he only had a better taste in hats! Anyway it wasn’t long before another 9 was stuck and made famous before her release.

We were kicking bluegill tail and taking names by this point, another 9 briefly came on board for a pic, we were amazed at the girth of these bad boys.

Both these monsters were over 9 and went back after a quick pic. Thick and girthy and the fish were the same :-).

I ended up with 72 clicks, he scored 55 and big fish honors, so it was actually bed picking for 127. We visited at least 10 good beds with many cooperative fish. A great day catching an awesome fish. Get out there this week if you can, they are biting.
