Please keep reading, it's not what you think. First fish today hit a ponyhead jig fairly deep. I was not on good footing and lost the fish trying to lift out of the water instead of reaching down for him. Threw that jighead & was gone. The water was pretty flat at this time & when it's like that I'm always lookin for COMMOTION on the surface. Years ago, I thought it was always LMB chasing shad, but at this lake I have found it more times than not to be nice gills doin the chasing of these baitfish schools in deep water. Just have to be lucky enough that they will come into casting range. I try to cast past and come back thru. Strikes are quick and very exciting. The first 3 pics show fish caught casting to these schools. Two using a ponyhead jig/curly tail grub and one on a small spoon/panfish stinger. As I said, if I see that type of commotion going on, I'm on my way. Things calmed down and hit another decent fish deep with the spoon/stinger setup. Thanks for lookin!![]()
