As if bass don't eat juvenile bass. There's a reason they make those "baby bass" crankbaits. ;)

Arthur, I’m with you on “catching what’s bite” camp! In fact I joined here because there’s a bucket list side of me if you will want to travel fishing as many types of fresh water and saltwater fish as I can with light tackle when time permits, starting with the many sunfish species the size of a hubcap you Midwest folks pulling out your home water! For most anglers here when the term ultralight fishing pops up they think Crappies, shellcrackers, and occasional bass throw in the mix, but before I joined that wasn’t the case with me. Up until 4 or so years ago I was still hopping county lines for trouts, bass, catfish, bony tail ( those are illegal now btw in NV)and oh even Utah chub! And occasional pier fishing California all with light or ultralight tackle...

You have one of the best Bluegill fisheries in the country south of you...Lake Havasu has monster gills...
Hi, Gillfishn as matter of fact i've read somewhere the "London bridge" state seems to hold one of the biggest redeared sunfish record. And also at another reading that HOA and a whole bunch of land owners were creating havoc for anglers (or was it the other way around..lol), but nonetheless its taking the fun out fishing for someone like me who doesn/'t own a boat. Unless a member of the forum knows a good accessible bank near spawning bed, it be just like lake mead all over again...plenty of hikes little to show for! Most members from BigBluegillfishing.com or Texasfishing forum all know the "Honey hole" of bluegill hangouts but i've yet attempt to ask fearing for the obvious answer gonna be. I might just bite the bullet and hire a guide on my first visit...thanks.
I wouldn’t call it a life list rather a collection of photos of what I catch just to have bragging rights or memory of where I’ve been when looking at them later. I’m what the “media” anglers are referring to CPR-catch photography release! Arthur I haven’t the need to take my catch home to consume in ages since introducing my young daughter to fishing years ago. Kid these days hate to see a string so to speak going through any fish gill without making a big fuss about so we stop as a family to harvest fish unnecessarily if we can get them at grocery store, and the fact I hate cleaning and gutting them..lol. But I have nothing against anglers who do. I just love being outside by the water and hear nature and fishing gives me something to meditate on.

Nuff said DBD, we got lot in common! I’m what you call “lazy” fisherman now ..lol, if it’s too hard or too out of the way I won’t enjoy it. Well I used to be very hard core when it comes to fishing for striped bass years ago and I did use those long rod (my old Cali surf rod) a 10 ft Fin Nor purchased just for striped bass fishing by the Delta and San Mateo beaches. We fished night also do those glo-in-the dark strike indicators were also used.

Same here. It's all too easy to forget what I caught, when caught (month) and what I caught it on. I hate those big question marks that pop up - now more than ever at my age - about the past and photos don't lie as they fill in the blanks of memory that occur all too often. Photos tell me what was and what IS possible or reliable when it comes to the hundreds of lures I modify or make and it still amazes me at times to see which actually worked!Quote:

Photos?- no brag just facts.
In case anyone cares. I caved and ordered the Kuying Teton last night that was mentioned and shown in the first post. It is a cool looking rod and after reading and watching several reviews, I think it would be a good rod to throw 1/64oz Trout Magnets and other tiny lures. Maybe even those 1/200oz Mini Magnets. It's rated for 1-3g so I'm hopeful. Only downside is that the scheduled delivery is supposed to be sometime in October lol.
Spoonminnow, my age is to blame also for me not being very affective these days in chasing bass and catfish in my own home water, lake mead..lol. The legs just won’t take it! I also want to take the opportunity to commend you on helping others( a girl and her mom) to see the light if you will when it comes to using the right lure and with right technique to catch any fish- read a thread you started in the main page:), and sorry about what happened to your tackle box! Messed up thing people do.

Hi Arthur, the Teton is awesome rod I used mine for several years without issues, congrats! Though I hope you bought the spinning version for it a much lighter rod.

Alphahawk posted this specs sheet so as you can see it’s 18grsm lighter than casting version. Yeah at this period in time anything out of China gonna take weeks to get here.

Thanks LV. The newbie was taught by her father that lures do catch fish - just not the right lure for conditions (bright sunny afternoon, no weeds for fish to ambush the Torpedo). I had to admire her persistence and concentration and wish I had a mentor, though brief, to show me a few things decades ago.
When it comes to stolen tackle, I see a burned out house on the way to the lake and think - NOW THAT'S REAL LOSS!!!
I did. Bought the TTS602UL. It's the spinning and 6ft long.

In case anyone cares again. The rod came in today. Less than 8 days from the time I placed my order to when it was delivered. For something that came from China in the middle of a pandemic that is pretty impressive. The rod feels great in hand and hoping to test it out this weekend.
Awesome new that it delivered pretty fast! Enjoy and share of pictures...always love see what other people catch, especially multi-specie catches:]
Good fishing with the new rod. Looks very nice.
Bob
The lower lure weight of 1gm translates to 1/28oz. I think casting a 1/200oz would be quite a challenge. I just weighed one of my #10 wet flies and weighed 1/126oz. Just my opinion.

Hi Tom, i'm a little confused at time when i'm reading jig head discussion as of late in regards to it's polarized popularity toward the lightest of weight possible. Am I missing something? Are these very light jigs being thrown mostly out of a boat or bank fishing because for the life of me I can't throw anything less than a regular TroutMagnet size hook or a #7 (1.15 gram) split shot+#18 royal wulf more than 40ft...thank goodness most ponds i fish at have embankments lol.
I'm not sure what those 1/200oz mini magnets are about. I think they are for fly fishing. Maybe some of the guys on this board familiar with trout magnets could shed some light on it. I can cast a 1/32oz jig about 50' and a 1/48oz jig around 30'.I don't even try to cast the 1/64oz. I do fish the 1/64oz and lighter jigs on a weighed fixed float quite frequently. I use 4# Berkley Fireline for all my bluegill, red ear and crappie fishing. Enjoyed our conversation. Sent from my SM-G960U using Crappie.com Fishing mobile app
In search of a jig that reasonably heavy enough yet has small hook for smaller bug or crayfish rubber pattern is quite difficult without resorting to expensive European or JDM purchases. TroutMagnet has proven affective in my home water but it’s light weight head proof difficult to cast further than 30 or 40 feet where bigger fish often hang out, that’s probably why I started this thread in pursuing the rod that could cast such lures..
maybe I was looking at the wrong place..lol. I should be looking at how to make some jig head to suite my need. I even devised these just to try out...Attachment 383429Attachment 383430
I’ll see how it fares soon enough:) Thanks for the reply Tom!

Just bend the end of the sequin pin up to create a barb for holding plastic baits. Attachment 383455

I do admit the bait keeper wire is cool idea. 1/32 oz (.886 grams) still on the light side for many of my American rods, Fenwick , Lightning Rod, but it be about perfect for the newly acquired Tict Ice Cube. Thanks for sharing Tom!
