Not sure where in SoCal you are located but thousands from SoCal visit the east slope Sierras to fish for quality trout every year. Think hwy 395, Inyo, Kern (I5) and Mono counties. My BIL has a cabin near Big Bear lake in SoCal , they even have their own state of the art trout hatchery.

There are some other area like lakes in SoCal where they plant huge tripolid trout during the winter months. I fished one about 15yrs ago but can't remember the name. They did charge a small access fee.
You just need a weekend, a good vehicle and a little pre-planning. And JDM gear lols!
If you click on the following link and then the links listed in the upper right corner you will see where the fishermen are from:

Plenty of SoCal fishers visit here, area like trout fishing with easy access and its free:

Further south and closer to you is the June Lakes Loop, Owen's River and Mammoth lakes area. Plus you can fish for trophy goldens in Kern Co.
There is a BFS trout fisherman from SoCal who posts regularly on YouTube, Angler 216 California is very successful in his endeavors.

I feel that it is better to use a tad heavier line and land the fish asap rather than wear him down in a long fight so he dies when released. Common with stripers.

Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.

Maybe I can chime in here.....
I fish Kentucky and Barkley lakes, multiple times a week on average, year round. I fish stake beds, down trees, rock bluffs, ledges... etc.
All with these high end JDM rods.
I used to fish G Loomis and St Croix, their top lines as well.
Anyone that tries to tell me that the nicest Loomis or St Croix is better quality than my Tenryu or GraphitLeader rods just purely has never held one.
All that being said, no one that fishes this JDM equipment has said its required, and rarely would I wager any of us would say it gives much of an advantage. But to say they’re the same quality as a Loomis or St Croix is objectively false. Anyone with functioning eyes can put they side by side and SEE the quality difference, let alone the feel.
As to the topic of “turning” a big redear or bass out of brush or whatever... well I’ve just never had a problem with that. My 2.3lb actual strength ester line, 2lb actual test mono, etc... never had a problem. Patience and a little bit of know how is all it takes to control a fish in the brush with this light tackle, until you get about 4-5lbs on a bass. But, I also know the secret of that for KY/Barkley... there just ain’t that many of them anymore since the Asian carp got here....

Yodie could you please explain how you can look at two rods side by side and see the big difference quality? Thanks

I feel like I shouldn’t engage here...
This will be the end of my comments on this:
Fit and finish are visual and tangible elements of quality.
I’ve read in your previous posts you think torzite guides are a waste, thus this being my last engagement in this discussion, we are on two different wavelengths.
For whatever reason you seem attacked by the fact we like our JDM equipment, no one is saying the equipment you have chosen to fish with and prefer is wrong, or that JDM gear is going to catch any one more fish. But to deny the quality and craftsmanship without ever experiencing it yourself first hand is a disservice to the manufacturers and to yourself.
Back to the original video it was fun to watch he was very good, for grinns and giggles I may take my StCroix UL and tape my Core 50 MG7 on it just to see what happens may be fun.
