s_v. If I had 3 different rods how could I test them to find out which cast the same lure, line and reel the farthest? That is what I am trying to accomplish.

I have my yard marked at 30,40 & 50' - this is for UL casting, with 1/64 & 1/32nd jigs. Now, if you use a heavily skirted jig it will shorten your throw. I use 3# nylon line.

To each their own, but I'm glad I never knew that figuring out casting distances could be so complicated when I got my first fishing pole 55 yrs ago, or else I probably would've never started fishing. I'm with the tape measure crowd also.
Besides, I gave up on math years ago when they tried sneaking those pesky letters in with numbers back in school.![]()
I actually thought that sitting down on my bench at the dock and simply counting the handle revolutions was/is pretty simple. Don't even need a tape measure! Do need the calculator on my phone though!

Your formula and your method can be simplified to do just that – just count the number of revolutions in the case of each rod compared. Most revolutions – probably the longest cast. It will work, no need for the formula, and certainly is a different story, because now you are assessing relative casting distances.
For those who want to know how far their rod, reel, line, and lure combination casts, I stay uncorrected that your original formula and method will overestimate the casting distance on water in feet or any other units for the reasons I outlined earlier.
z520tom thanked you for this post
Thanks s_v. I understanding what you are saying. Took a while for this old man to process it. It DC does make sense to me now. Sent from my SM-G960U using Crappie.com Fishing mobile app
I made a mistake in this formula for casting distance. Fellow member s_v kindly pointed it out and I appreciate him doing so. The formula will error on the high side. Sorry for posting it and hope it didn't cause anyone any problems. Guess I will be going back to test casting in my driveway like so many of you guys do already.

If I catch fish, I've cast far enough.
