That is exactly why I went to both smaller round bobbers as well as the thills. The thills gave a great indication, but I had multiple gut hooks that were instant fatalities.

I put the #6s back in the box and tried Aberdeens. I had instant success, immediately followed by a gut hook. The jig hook completely eliminates gut hooks, but had a ton of misses.

I will say that today was quite the extreme for gut hook fatalities. However I had a similar experience last time I came to this pond.

Sad as it is, I had better luck with good hook sets with my original sped stick!
