Patiently waiting, seems like I have been doing that since the first week in March. Chased those Speckled Bellied Panfish through the month of March and April, but as the water has slowly warmed thoughts and gear have changed to target the Cricket Crunchers. Full Moon, May 7th, still waiting on that, but getting close to full as seen tonight.

Water temps were slow to rise this Spring, finally found 70+ degrees H2O after a weekend of 80+ degree air temps. With a little stain the water warmed fast. On a Trout Magnet, a Smallie made the first picture.

Fun on the Finetail, but not what I was after. Something big wanted my TM, never saw it, so after a retie I changed up to a Fish Arrow 1.5in Slim Minnow Flash bait. I kept seeing little fry jumping (skipping) out of the shallows like they were being chased, so I gave this Japanese bait a try on a Diawa Gekajibin 1g head.

Finally, found them starting to set up shop on a known bed. 7-8 inch boys were rattling my wrist, and the net was necessary to land the little buggers.

Thick with shoulders, worth the wait. I switched up to a Tungsten Bead Head jig, a favorite of mine to throw and a little smaller profile.

Tipped with a Waxie, they smacked it with authority and several more joined the livewell party.

Including a flat out Stud who was a hand full, literally. Many were released, more than brought home, but 13 made the trip to the house for a few board pics and meal planning.

Storms, winds, even 40 degree temps are forecast this coming week, all not good for these old boys trying to get ready for the ladies on the 7th and after. Mother Nature’s delays will probably result in more..... you guessed it.....waiting!
