Ahhh, good ol' reaction strikes. Any more I question the definition and have begun to believe that: all strikes are reactions to moving objects if fish so chose based on lure design, speed and proximity.
Lures simply tickle the senses leading to sensory overload once their attention is piqued. Live prey fit into fish sensory expectations; lures do not - which is good thing in that there are so many types that can catch fish of all species on any one day. I've posted examples by the hundreds just to prove that point and stimulate more lure versatility.
So when it comes to using the blade or not, fish determine the scope of lure types, size range, actions, speed and direction (vert/horiz). Could be very limited or wide, but ultimately the senses speak.
Something to ponder on days such as these that are determined to keep us fish-free.
