7.4 Corto Take Two

I have only had my new Olympic Graphiteleader Corto 7.42L-T out one time, a short trip with a Drum being the inaugural catch.

While a fun ride, not my intended target with such a fine piece of graphite. So tonight with rising waters and impending rain, I knew the old Green and Brown Fish would be up in the creeks again, and I was headed that way right about dark loaded up with the 7.4 and some good 3lb Braid. Now with this nice weather we have been having, I knew I might have to join in a group of people and sure enough at my favorite bass creek 2 vehicles were already there. Slinging big noisy baits and armed with what seems like rope on broomsticks they were almost frothing the waters. I eased in between a couple people and almost immediately hooked up.

16.5 inch Smallie, his commotion created an immediate audience, but the Corto won this first battle. Released unharmed but admired, I noticed some lure changes from the others. About 10 minutes later, my Luvias drag started its musical melody, and the onlookers knew as soon as I did it was on again.

15.5 skinny Green Carp, and I am liking this Corto, liking it a lot. Now a couple other small Bass fell for the Rootbeet TM, and finally one of the guys down the bank came over to see what I was doing that he was not.

We talked, he admired the rod and was surprised when I told him it was a Light Action 7.4 rod and 3lb test line. He said he actually noticed the good bend in the rod and that is what made him come closer. Well come to find out he knew me from my old Bass fishing days, actually called me by name. We caught up for a few minutes, he left, and so I moved on down out of the current where the Panfish usually hang out.

They were home, and here is where I noticed the difference in this 7.4 and the 6.10 that I also own. The bites of the smaller fish were not as pronounced in the tip of the 7.4. Yes I could feel them, but the 6.10 for the Gill bite is much better, better feedback as Alphahawk says. He is correct. I switched to a new Jig head, a Cultiva .6g with a 45 degree eyelet and small plastic holder on the hook. It too is super sharp, and as it was getting dark I stuck another old Bank Bully, but the Corto brought him in with ease once again.

The White Bass were coming in too, and if I had not have forgot my headlamp I might still be there sticking those little rascals.

I know this has been long, but I really do like the new Corto in the 7.4 length. I feel like I am the one who brought the gun to the knife fight tonight.
