I've got two rods I'll use, both on the cheaper side. One is a Berkley Lightning Rod that I believe is 5 ft. 10 inches and was given to me as a present around the year 2000. The second is a Fenwick Eagle 6 ft. 6 in. rod I bought around 2 years ago. Both rods are Light action, rigged with small reels (not sure the brands, but also relatively cheap) and are running Trilene XL 2 lb. line. I get about 40 feet with the Lightning Rod and maybe 45 feet with the Fenwick when tossing a 1/64 oz. beetle. Don't have any high end gear to compare them to.

Ok...because I had nothing better to do after TVA ruined my trout fishing trip.....by opening the sluice releasing a lot more water than what they were supposed to below Normandy....I did some casting and measuring. Casting a 1/64 ounce TM jig head...with a TM body on it...using the 6 foot long Fine Tail Banshee SUL rod...I got 54 feet average of 5 casts using 2.3# test Varivas ester with a .117mm diameter. Switching to the Sunline Troutist Area Meister 3# test with a diameter of .128mm I got a 5 cast average of 64 feet on same rod. Both reels had same diameter spool.

That's outstanding distance for a 1/64 oz bait.

That is good distance. I attribute that to the small diameter lines....the nylon being soft...and the ester with the fluoride coating makes it very slick, even though it is bit stiff. I no longer have any 2# test Nanofil to test with but it would have cast considerably farther.

Awesome Randy! I was going to do a test to answer the question but ran out of daylight. 64’ is impressive for 1/64th oz jighead.

That’s a good cast. I bought some 3lb crystal and the jury is still out. Need to try the 2lb.

Yes,that 1/64 TM is so light, dropping down to 2llb would make a difference.I also sprayed on some Blakemore Reel Magic to see what it would do...it didnt do anything.
