You nailed it. That stiff back bone is why it is not the best rod to use ester with to target 14-18 inch Spots. It is great for bluegill.....crappie......and I have been using some JDM 3 gram trout blades for trout and it really shines. It definitely is worth the money. Using ester with the 6’ 7” Banshee I don’t lose many spotted bass at all. It is softer than this rod plus the 4 more inches gives me a lot more rod to cushion the line. Fighting stocker trout.....and bluegill on this rod is a hoot.
